Recipe for Lachcha Paratha

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon ajwain/carom seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Water for kneading

Directions

  1. In a large bowl mix together the flour, carom seeds, salt and oil.
  1. Slowly add in water, little by little, and start kneading the dough.
  1. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it is soft and pliable.
  1. Oil the surface of the dough and cover it with a damp cloth.
  1. Let the dough sit for at least 15 minutes.
  1. Divide the dough into 8-10 equal parts.
  1. Take one part of the dough and roll it into a circle.
  1. Apply some oil on the rolled out circle and sprinkle some flour over it.
  1. Start pleating the edges of the circle and then roll it into a tight spiral.
  1. Roll it out into a circle again, making sure it isn't too thin.
  1. Heat a pan over medium heat and place the rolled out paratha on it.
  1. Let it cook for a couple of minutes until golden brown spots start to appear.
  1. Flip it over and let it cook for a couple of minutes.
  1. Apply some oil on the paratha and flip it again.
  1. Let it cook for a couple of minutes until both sides are golden brown.
  1. Serve hot with chutney or curd.
