Recipe for Lachcha Paratha
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon ajwain/carom seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons oil
- Water for kneading
Directions
- In a large bowl mix together the flour, carom seeds, salt and oil.
- Slowly add in water, little by little, and start kneading the dough.
- Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it is soft and pliable.
- Oil the surface of the dough and cover it with a damp cloth.
- Let the dough sit for at least 15 minutes.
- Divide the dough into 8-10 equal parts.
- Take one part of the dough and roll it into a circle.
- Apply some oil on the rolled out circle and sprinkle some flour over it.
- Start pleating the edges of the circle and then roll it into a tight spiral.
- Roll it out into a circle again, making sure it isn't too thin.
- Heat a pan over medium heat and place the rolled out paratha on it.
- Let it cook for a couple of minutes until golden brown spots start to appear.
- Flip it over and let it cook for a couple of minutes.
- Apply some oil on the paratha and flip it again.
- Let it cook for a couple of minutes until both sides are golden brown.
- Serve hot with chutney or curd.
